Ophthalmology and otolaryngology out-patients clinic

Phoniatric out-patients clinic

Phoniatry is a medical specialization, which is derived from otolaryngology. It focuses on disorders of vocal communication Within its scope lie voice hearing (particularly among children), and speech disorders

The treatment of the voice disorders depends on their causes. It covers, in various proportions, both pharmacological invasive treatment and rehabilitation. The objective of rehabilitation is to allow unconstrained voice creation appropriate to the patient's age, sex, constitution and, possibly, postoperative state of the larynx.

The most often frequent patients of the phoniatrist are:

  • people using their voice in for work: teachers, singers and speakers,
  • patients after surgical removal of the larynx who are learning esophageal speech
  • patients after vocal folds surgery
  • people with hormonal voice disorders (voice mutation disorders)
  • patients with laryngeal nerves paralysis
  • patients with psychogenic voice disorders

The evaluation of the voice disorders includes::

  • evaluation of the degree of voice development
  • efficiency of the central motokinesthetic system
  • efficiency of the central speech mechanisms,
  • activity of the auditory and visual analyzers
  • sociopsychologic stimulation
  • psychosomatic development
  • efficiency of the peripheral vocal apparatus

multi-specialization process and aims to provide both causal treatment and the fastest possible rehabilitation possible .

For children, it is based on correction of articulation disorders and stimulation of vocal development during its short period of formation, as well as providing rehabilitation services after the corrective operations of facial skeleton (clefts).

Among adults, in most cases voice disorders are caused by neurological disorders (central or peripheral damage due to vascular or proliferative changes) or accompany psychiatric disorders.
